Alejandro Manuel Buenrostro y Arellano: Master in Sociology from Ibero-americana University – UIA – Mexico and from PUC-SP, Brazil. Coordinates the Xojobil (Arco-íris) Project in Guarulhos – SP. Worked with popular education among indigenous and peasants for more than 20 years in the provinces of Chiapas and Michoacán, México. In Brazil, he organized the book Chiapas construindo a esperança (Chiapas - building hope), and also wrote As raízes do fenômeno Chiapas (the roots of the Chiapa´s phenomenon www.xojobil.sites.uol.com.br

Bia Goulart: Architect specialized in urbanism. General Coordinator of Neighborhood-School project in the city of Nova Iguaçu (RJ). Since 1983, Goulart has been working in the approach of Territory and Education areas, building spaces and reflections over Place Pedagogy. University teacher, working in graduation of Public Education system teachers. Bia also coordinates workshops for children and communities in participative projects and acts as municipal government advisor.

Carolina Sumie Ramos: Pedagogue. Educator at the Teia Multicultural School and coordinator of the specialization on “Democratic Education”at the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil.

Cecilia Noriko Ito Saito: Master and getting her doctor degree in Communication and Semiotics at PUC-SP. Specialist in Art and Technology. Researcher at the Oriental Studies Center of PUC-SP and at the Standard Japanese School in Goias. Author of the book O shodô, o corpo e os novos processos de significação (The shodô, the body and the new processes of signification).

Cecília Hanna Mate: Since 1986, undergraduate and graduate professor at Education Department of Sao Paulo University, responsible for the Didactics Discipline. Historicist, master and doctor in History of Education. Supervisor of researches in Scientific Initiation, Masters and PhD. Member of two Research groups: one about Libertarian Education and other about didactic books. Hanna Mate has several publications over Curriculum and Education.

David Gagnon: former student at Windsor House School (1994 to 2002).
In recent years he Gagnon remained an active member of the WH community; organizing events and theatre productions, supporting outdoor activities and working to organizing IDEC 2008. David's formal
education ended in grade three when he 'quit' elementary school. Though university education is a consideration, he has not returned to formal schooling since.

Eda Luiz: Pedagogue, now developing Youth and Adult Education graduation course. Principal of the Integrated Center of Adults and Youth Education of Campo Limpo, Sao Paulo (SP), Brazil.

Eduardo Peterle Nascimento: is getting his master in Education Sociology at the Sao Paulo University. He is pedagogical coordinator of popular university preparatory courses. His research theme is the popular class youth and the university. Nascimento is investigating the youth aspiration for university degree as a mean of social ascension as well as a daily strategy of building a life project.

Eduardo Jorge Canella: Entrepreneur and Architecture student at Sao Paulo University. Co-founder of the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil.

Elie Ghanem: Professor at the Education Department of Sao Paulo University.

Felix Scheel: involved in different initiatives that built a solidarity and alternative "gratis" economy from below in Berlin. Founded the alternative University "Offene Uni BerlinS" (OUBS www.offeneuni.tk). Scheel takes part in Tsolife and also develops political art projects in Bremen.

Gilberto Moreno: Sociologist and master student at Education Department of Sao Paulo University. Coordinator of the specialization on “Democratic Education” of the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil.

Gláucia de Melo Ferreira: Pedagogue and master from Campinas University. Principal of Curumim School, in Campinas, SP. Organizer of the book “Palavra de Professor(a): Tateios e Reflexões na Prática da Pedagogia Freinet. Coordinator of Brazilian association for divulgation, studies and research of Freinte´s Pedagogy. Helena Singer: Master and doctor in Sociology, currently develops after-doctor project at the Laboraty of Studies and Researches on Teaching and Diversity of Campinas University. One of the founders of Lumiar School, in Sao Paulo and the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil. Knowledge manager of Aprendiz City School. Author of Children Republic and Disconcerted Speeches, among other books and articles on education and human rights published in Brazil and abroad.

Henrique Parra: Master in Sociology from Sao Paulo University, getting his doctor degree at the Education Department of Unicamp University. Collaborator of Independent Media Center and founder Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil.

Hugues Lenoir: Universidade Paris X professor.

John Loflin: acquired a degree in alternative education in the 70s. He has worked in alternative and democratic education at national/international levels. After IDEC 2003, he helped to build the Democratic Education Consortium. He is the originator of "reinventing adolescence," Homo curaos, and A Learner's Bill of Rights. He is a member of the Hip-hop Congress and Senior Fellow at the Black & Latino Policy Institute. Both are in Indianapolis.

José Augusto Dias: member of Janusz Korczak Association in Brazil, Academia Paulista de Educação. Retired professor of Education Department of Sao Paulo University.

José Pacheco: Major in Education Sciences. Master in Children Education from Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação da Universidade do Porto. Teaches at Escola da Ponte, since 1976. Author of Para Alice, com amor (To Alice, with love); Para os filhos dos filhos dos nossos filhos (to the sons of the sons of our sons); Caminhos para a incluSao (Paths to inclusion); (Escola da Ponte- Formation and Transformation), among others.

Judith Terreiro: Pedagogue with master in Strategic Management for the Third Sector. Judith works with formal, non-formal and informal education in public, private and third sector institutions in the kindergarten and youth segment. Currently, Terreiro coordinates the Training Center of Aprendiz City School, which develops Community Education Programs and training courses for teachers, managers, education technicians for the municipal, state and federal programs, as well as for the youth, community leaderships and alike area agents social assistance, health, work, public security...). Terreiro also coordinates partnerships for these programs and trainings. Counselor of the Youth National Council.

Leonardo José Jeber: physical education professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Master in Education from UFMG; pedagogic advisor Colégio Neusa Rocha and Bioenergetis Analysis Therapist from the Brazilian Association of Bioenergetics Analysis of Belo Horizonte.

Lílian L’Abbate Kelian: Historicist. Coordinator of the specialization on “Democratic Education” at the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil.

Luís Henrique Fagundes: Student at Education Department of Sao Paulo University. Researcher at the Research Institute for Information Technologies and at the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil.

Marcelo Gomes Justo: Sociologist, master and doctor in Human Geography at Sao Paulo University. Professor at SENAC-SP, co-founder of the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil. Author of Capim na Fresta do Asfalto (Grass in the asphalt´s gap) and articles about rural conflicts and human rights published in Brazil and abroad.

Marcelo Tavares de Santana: Computer Engineer. Marcelo develops systems using free or open technologies. He is a volunteer for the Independent Media Center, studying the production of free software, since March 2003. Researcher forInstitute for Democratic Education in Brazil, developing self-management knowledge tool for democratic schools.

Maria Isabel S. Dias Baptista: Pedagogue, with habilitation in special education and school management. Maria Isabel is getting her master in “Education, Evaluation and teacher’s training” at the Campinas University (Unicamp). With 20 years of practice in the special education area, Baptista taught for 13 years in an institution for Down’s syndrome students. She works with teachers in alphabetization courses, musical education classes, kindergarten education and inclusion projects.

Maria Letícia Nascimento: Pedagogue, master and doctor in Education from the Sao Paulo University. Professor at USP. Researcher in the children sociology and children education. Participates of the Sao Paulo Children Education Fórum.

Maria Teresa Égler de Manton: Professor at Education Departmena and general coordinator of Laboratório de Estudos e Pesquisas sobre Ensino e Diversidade da Campinas University (Laboratory of Studies and Researches about Education and Diversity from the Campinas University).

Moe Zimmerberg: went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied Neuroscience, doing psycho-physical experiments in vision and hearing. After graduating and working for a year building electronic experimental instruments he went traveling. As part of his travels he got a job acting in a play about energy. They performed at various elementary schools in central Washington State and they led workshops in alternative energy issues. Upon moving to Santa Fe; Moe started volunteering at Little Earth School and eventually became a part-time teacher there. He also worked as a math instructor at the college of Santa Fe and took courses in elementary education culminating in a state certificate in education. In 1990 he heard about The Tutorial School, and he has been there ever since, becoming a full partner when the school moved to its present location in 1992.

Natacha Costa: Psychologist. General director of the Aprendiz City School. Coordinated projects in education with children and youth in NGOs such as Projeto Axé and Criança Segura Brasil and in public and private schools in Sao Paulo. Developed the world net Computer Clubhouse in Osasco City. Costa worked as educator in the Teaching Center of Aprendiz City School.

Patricia Moreira: journalist, participated of the foundation of People School – Communication in Inclusion, where she works as project manager. Moreira integrated the Brazilian committee that attended, in August 2006, the session that approved the text for the Disabled People Rights Convention, approved by the United Nations General Assembly on March 30th 2007.

Ricardo Casco: Major in Physical Education, master in Psychology and Doctor in Education from PUC-SP. Researcher at the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil. Casco also works in teacher’s training at Cempec and at Sao Paulo city hall.

Rocío Casariego Vásquez: Professor at Universidad Pedagógica Nacional de México and Coordinadotor of Educational inclusion of the recent created Education Secretary of Federal District. Major in Philosophy from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, major in Learning Problems from Escuela Normal de Especialización de México, master in Pedagogy from Universidad Nacional Autónoma and in Informatic from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional de México. Author of several titles on methodology of indigenous education, such as Escuela y Comunidades Originarias en México (Schools and Originary Comunities in Mexico). Minerva collaborates with the language and indigenous culture programs named Las Plumas de la Serpiente which is offered in a radio and television version.

Rudá Ricci: Sociologist Master in Political Science, Coordinator of the Instituto Cultiva (www.cultiva.org.br ) and member of national executive of Brazil Forum´s budget (www.forumfbo.org.br). Member of Worlds association of Democratic Social Educators and of International Observatory of Participative Democracy. Reporter for Social Responsibility Law.

Sílvio Gallo: Professor of Education Department at the Campinas University

Sabine Steldinger: independent activist for emancipative education and ecology in Berlin. Since 2000 Sabine is involved in different activities, organizing political conferences, workshops, camps about alternative education, school critics, environment subjects, anti nuclear, emancipator organization, alternative living, G8, DIY, GMO. Since spring 2006 she is building up The Travelling school of life, education network.

Taís Borges: Undergraduate in International Relations. Coordinates the youth network of MudaMundo Generation, iniciative of Ashoka social entrepreneurs (www.ashoka.org.br and www.genv.net/pt-br), co-founder of the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil. Borges was an educator at Lumiar School and producer at Brincante Produções Artísticas.

Vicente Concílio: Actor, master in stage art from Sao Paulo University. Educator at Lumiar School and Amorim Lima School. Co- founder of the Institute for Democratic Education in Brazil.

Yaacov Hecht: Psychologist, director of the Institute for Democratic Education (IDE), incubator of democratic schools in Israel, which coordinates the management of municipal education nets and that in partnership with the Kibbutzim College, offers graduation in Democratic Education. Author of books and articles in several languages about democratic education.

Zeca Sampaio (José Gustavo Sampaio Garcia): master in Art from Sao Paulo University and in Education from UniSantos. Sampaio is getting a doctor degree from Sao Paulo University. Co- founder of Brazil Wilhelm Reich Association. Professor at Universidade Santa Cecília, in Santos-SP. Author of children books, theater plays and musician.
